Christmas Wish List Rules

As I mentioned in my last post, I'm really excited that we've decided to for-go Christmas presents with our siblings this year. I'm looking forward to a simpler Christmas this year.

Payton, on the other hand, is making his lists of things he wants. It all started a few weeks ago when he saw something he wanted on TV. He asked if he could put it on his list. I told him, yes, but we first had to discuss the rules about Christmas presents.

1) You don't get everything you ask for. Your list is a suggestion in case someone wants to know what you want.
2) You may ask Santa for ONE gift and only ONE gift. We're not greedy. We already have plenty of toys anyway.
3) Mommy & Daddy will buy you 3 gifts. That's how many baby Jesus got; that's all you need.
4) In order to bring new gifts into our home, we must sort through the toys/books we aren't using and donate them to others.
5) If ANYONE gets you ANYTHING, you will be grateful for it. That person didn't have to get you anything at all.

So, today, he said (again) that he wants a Nintendo DS. I reminded him of the rules and he agreed (again).

He has spent the afternoon deciding what he wants to keep and what he wants to part with.

We got Anna a DS for her b-day and she really does love it and play with it alot.
We too are not exchanging gifts this year and it is a great relief to get back to what Christmas really is!

Hey, thanks for checking out my blog (I didn't know Blogger recommends blogs...thanks, Blogger!). We're all about the simple Christmas this year, too--I subjected our families to a manifesto about it way back in September! lol Look forward to checking out your other entries. =)

we do the 3 gift rule with the grandparents - sometimes MIL adheres, often not.

santa also only brings one gift here too. it's the only one that sits in the very front, unwrapped, Christmas morning.

i like simple. it's the way it should be.

love you.

i love the rules... i may "borrow" them ;)

markus also wants the ds and we basically told him not to expect it. we're not all about the video games over here and don't want to encourage it. something tells me his father will end up buying it for him.. he's the "good" guy

i LOVE the rules too...Christmas shouldn't be about the gifts we get. It just makes it so stressful and distracts from the real meaning.

Great ideas! Our Christmas is being very scaled back this year as far as presents go and surprisingly, the boys seem to understand that and haven't even asked for a single thing. I know they are going to love what we got them though. It's so great to see your kids understand that Christmas is so much more than the presents...yet still be excited for the ones they do get too. You're an awesome momma, teaching your kids awesome things. You pretty much rock, but we already knew that, didn't we?! Love ya!
