My childhood elementary school is being torn down this summer. In it's place will be built a mega school that will house all the students from three of the current elementary schools in the district.
I'm not usually sentimental about material things, but I knew that while I was home I needed to visit the school. One last time. To say good bye to where I spent six years of my life.
I took my oldest son and we were able to walk through the building and capture some pictures of that place that held so many memories.
These pictures are the walls in "Sea World" which started as our second gym area but became a "packers' lunchroom" when the cafeteria got too small.
Out in the main hallway are these bay windows. We used to have small study groups there during class time. It was only the really privileged and well behaved students who were permitted to be in the hallways unsupervised.
We wandered through the halls and found my very first classroom at Fairwood, for Kindergarten. The sink is still stained from all the paint washed down the drain off little hands.
In the auditorium, I found my most visual memory of the school, still slightly obscured by the ropes we used to climb "to the ceiling" when we were kids in Mr. Foster's gym class.
Time has stood still at Fairwood,
But the memories of the original Fairwood will live in the hearts of the students forever.
Feel free to pass this link on to other Fairwood Students who might enjoy reliving some memories through the pictures. Everyone is welcome to comment.

What a wonderful way to remember the years you shared there. Memories now you will be able to share with your children!
Oh! That's kind of sad! They shut my old elementary school and built the new school elsewhere. Ten years later - the building still stands alone. :(
If you get a chance, will come by my page and let me know if it's working. If not, email me at janellesjunk@centurytel.net.
Surreal, huh? Avery plays t-ball where I went to elementary school. It is odd to be there now with my family.
It's great that you took P with you so he could see it also. Mom K
What a great tour! Like you, I am not sentimental about a lot of things, but school is a place that formed the people that we grew to be. There will always be a connection to it. I would be sad as well if that were my school!
I loved the shot of the bay windows - I could see myself sitting in there, curled up and studying. And the clock - such a "school" clock! I am glad that you were able to show your son where you spent much of your early years.
Markus enjoyed looking at the pictures from his "old" elementary school. he loved it there!
