The nose of a hound dog

I think I'm part hound dog. I'm not sure what part, but it must be in my genes somewhere. Since I got pregnant with Payton, my sense of smell has been heightened. And even more so since giving birth to Maxwell almost two years ago.

The other day, I came home from Payton's school and from OUTSIDE MY HOUSE, I could smell Matt's mouthwash. I walked in the door and sure enough, he had just cleaned his teeth. I told him and he just said I was weird. Ahh, yes. We know.

For two days, I was smelling something weird in my kitchen. I couldn't figure out what it was, but I knew something was going or had already gone bad. Matt said I was crazy and that he couldn't smell anything. We had several visitors over, including my inlaws, and no one said anything. I could smell it, but I don't think anyone else did.

Tuesday, I climbed up in the kitchen and hunted down the smell. A small pumpkin on top of our cabinets had started to rot. Yuck!

Yeah, you can tell me I'm weird now, too.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one!!! My entire family makes fun of me b/c my sense of smell is ridiculous!!! I can smell a skunk 10 minutes before Mike does and I swear sometimes the ice cubes have a garlic smell! And ever since we moved into our new house, I smell something upstairs, only at night - no every night, that is a cross between pencil shavings and b.o. and Mike thinks I've lost my mind! One of these days I'll figure it out!

I know, I'm weird!

We're both weird then! My family describes me as "The girl who can smell a fart before it happens". Now that's a title we all want to bear! LOL Really though, I go crazy when I can smell something and no one else can. I'm like you in that I will hunt until I find it. At least you found it and were able to get rid of it. Oh, that reminds me of the big even we had at church last week and the church was packed beyond capacity and I got where I could smell what I describe as "body smells". I seriously can't even handle that. I can smell b.o., hair that's dirty, etc. when I'm in a big crowd of people and it makes me totally ill. My friend who was pregnant was laughing at me because she didn't smell anything and couldn't figure out how I could and she couldn't when she was supposed to be the one with the heightened sense of smell. Oh well, I guess my house should never smell and either should yours, so that's a good thing, huh?! ;-)
